After tens of thousands of votes were cast in the March Townhall/HotAir GOP presidential Straw Poll, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin took a very slight victory with 16.91% of the vote over Texas congressman Ron Paul.
Coming in 2nd was Texas Congressman Ron Paul with just over 16.02%. The results from March showed a tightening in the race when compared to the results from January and February.
Votes for Sarah Palin, have decreased by more than 2% while Paul's numbers increased.
Congressmans Paul's strong stance of limited government, ending the federal reserve and the IRS as well as his strong support for a gold backed currency is what most claim drive their strong support for him in the grassroots community.
Most claim that his strict adherence to the constitution to which he only votes aye on congressional bills that are constitutional and usually votes NO on most bills is what drives them to fund his political campaigns. Congressman Paul; also raised over 3 million dollars this quarter in fundraising for his Liberty PAC as well as his Campaign For Liberty group.
The donations received this quarter were an average of $70 which shows his strong grassroots support nationwide. Paul does not take money from special interest or lobby groups as most other politicians do which actually makes him a congressman with integrity and principle which we don't see much in washington.
Although Paul has not stated he will run for President in 2012 he has not ruled out the option. If these recent polls indicate anything, it is that Ron Paul is a front runner for the 2012 Presidential camapigns.
